Ana advances to round three

Ana produced another fine display as she moved past world No.39 Elina Svitolina from Ukraine 6-3, 6-0 in the second round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

From 3-3 in the opening set, the 11th seed was in firm control, winning all of the following nine games to ensure that she was back in the locker room in under an hour for the second consecutive day.

Overall, it was a good performance from Ana, although she had to be on guard during the opening stages of the match. Breaks were traded early on, but as the 25-year-old broke Svitolina for a second time in game seven, there was to be no stopping her.

She consolidated her advantage and added a third break shortly after, while the Ukrainian was serving to keep the opening set alive.

It was even more one-sided in set two with Ana racing through the match, scoring two straight breaks to go 4-0 up. She was slightly challenged on serve in the fifth game, but swiftly got rid of a break point with one of her abundant forehand winners.

Ana eventually completed the whitewash in the next game, breaking Svitolina for the sixth time in eight service games.

Ana will take on Germany’s No.5 seed Angelique Kerber in the third round on Wednesday.
