Ana and Maria Kirilenko scored an impressive 7-6, 6-2 victory over Liezel Huber and Sania Mirza in the first round of the JPMorgan Chase Open doubles competition. The South African-Indian team have a combined doubles ranking of 54, compared to 119 for Ana and Maria.

The teenagers were broken immediately and, though they fought back to lead 5-4, were again broken and the more experienced pairing served for the opening set. However, Ana and Maria hit back and took the tiebreak 7-2. They then broke in the third and fitth games of the second set and wrapped up victory in an hour and 32 minutes.

For a second successive week the youngsters will face third seeds Daniela Hantuchova and Ai Sugiyama in a second round match, after the Slovakian-Japanese team beat Marion Bartoli and Shahar Peer 6-4, 6-3. When the same encounter took place in San Diego five days ago Hantuchova and Sugiyama ran out 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 winners.

Ana's first round singles match against Vera Dushevina has been scheduled as the third on Court 4 today. Play starts at 11am and the match is expected to begin sometime after 2.30pm local time (11.30pm Central European Time).
