Ana reached the second round of the China Open in Beijing as she moved past 11th seed Marion Bartoli 6-2, 6-3 in 67 minutes. It was a quick-fire dose of revenge, after Bartoli had similarly outclassed Ana in Tokyo just six days ago.
Despite the fact that Ana had lost their two latest meetings, she appeared to be in very relaxed mood at the Lotus Stadium, while Bartoli had to rely on her second serve too much. Ana made use of that perfectly as she returned aggressively and, in the fourth game, the former world No.1 came back from 40-15 to break the Frenchwoman.
The 11th seed was no match for a relentless Ana in the first set and she was unable to resist a second service break.
Ana started to struggle with her serve somewhat as the play continued and at 1-1 in the second set, she faced three break points. The Frenchwoman broke and seemed to increase her level.
Fortunately Ana’s forehand remained capable of performing at a superb level and the 22-year-old got back from 1-3 down to 5-3 up. She served out in style to beat Bartoli for the first time this year.
"What a difference a week makes! Today I felt so much more comfortable on the court than I did against her in Tokyo," said Ana.
"I like the conditions here and it was a thrill to finally get to play a match on the stadium court, after twice coming here and having to withdraw. I'm happy with how I came back after going a break down and overall it was a very satisfying victory."
Ana advances to a tussle with Olga Govortsova in round two. The 22-year-old Belorussian defeated María José Martínez Sánchez from Spain on Saturday 6-3, 6-2.
The match is scheduled as the third of the day on Court 1, with play starting at 12pm local time (6am Central European Time, 12am Eastern Time). Click here for live point-by-point scoring from the National Tennis Centre.
