Ana advanced to the semi-finals of the Generali Ladies Linz with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over world No.23 Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia.
Ana was dominant in the opening set, playing aggressively and serving strongly. She saved all three break points she faced and won almost half of the points on the Cibulkova serve.
The Slovakian had beaten Ana in two of their three previous meetings, albeit once when the 25-year-old retired injured. Cibulkova showed greater threat in the second set and she moved into a 3-0 lead.
Ana wisely chose this moment to consult with her on-court coach Nemanja Kontic, and his words did the trick: they preceded a run of four consecutive games that effectively secured the match for Ana.
She wrapped up victory after an hour and 20 minutes when she broke the 24-year-old.
Ana takes on world No.58 Stefanie Voegele in the semi-finals on Saturday. The Swiss was a surprise 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 victor over second seed Sloane Stephens in a match lasting two hours and 47 minutes.
The match is scheduled as the second of the day and is due to begin sometime after 3.30pm local time (9.30am Eastern Time).
