Ana got her grass court season off to a winning start as she beat Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 in the first round of the UNICEF Open. The 22-year-old recovered well from an indifferent first set as she ran out a comfortable winner in the end.
The first set was a forgettable affair for Ana and her followers as she struggled with her consistency from the ground. She regrouped admirably in the next two sets, however, hitting freely on the forehand wing especially, as she overwhelmed the world No.65.
Arvidsson broke Ana early on and had points to lead 4-1 before Ana got a foothold in the match. Though she lost the opening set 6-4, she broke immediately in the second set and raced through it without dropping a game.
The Swede got herself on the scoreboard at the beginning of the third set but Ana's continued aggression paid off and she wrapped up a three-set victory in just 72 minutes.
She hit 11 aces and 11 double faults, and faces Germany's Andrea Petkovic, the seventh seed, in the second round.
The match is scheduled as the second on Centre Court on Tuesday, and is due to begin sometime after 12.30pm local time (6.30am Eastern Time). Click here for live point-by-point scoring from the Autotron Rosmalen.
