Ana cruises past Bacsinszky

Ana powered past world No.82 Timea Bacsinszky 6-1, 6-2 in the first roud of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

It was a dominant performance by the new world No.10, who quickly opened up a 5-0 lead and scored an early break in the second set of the 72-minute match.

Ana will take on 51st-ranked Coco Vandeweghe of the United States in the second round on Wednesday, after the 23-year-old defeated fellow qualifier Shuai Zhang 6-2, 6-4.

The pair have met once before: Ana triumphed 7-6, 6-3 at the same stage in Carlsbad last year. Vandeweghe has risen 148 places in the rankings in the 12 months since that encounter.
