Ana has been drawn against Russian world No.26 Alisa Kleybanova in the first round of the Bank of the West Classic, which begins in Stanford on Monday.
It will be the fourth meeting between the pair in women’s tennis – they played once as juniors with Ana winning – and the Russian leads the head-to-head series 3-1. She most recently beat Ana at the French Open in May. On hard courts, the surface in Stanford, the count is one victory each.
Should Ana come through this difficult encounter she would face either fourth seed Marion Bartoli or American Ashley Harkleroad in the second round, while eighth seed Victoria Azarenka is a possible quarter-final opponent.
Top seed and world No.5 Samantha Stosur could await in the semi-finals if Ana were to progress so far.
The leading seeds in the bottom half of the draw are No.2 Elena Dementieva and No.3 Agnieszka Radwanska.
