Ana falls to No.23

Ana has dropped two places to No.23 in the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings, which are published today. The lists reflect players’ performances at Roland Garros, where Ana reached the third round compared to last year’s quarter-final appearance.

Ana’s defeat to tenth seed Anastasia Myskina saw her lose a total of 112 points. Consequently Maria Kirilenko, Nathalie Dechy and Ai Sugiyama have overtaken her, while Elena Likhovtseva falls behind all four players.

In the Porsche Race, which determines the eight qualifiers for the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships, Ana moves up one place to No.22, while her doubles ranking drops one spot to No.90.

Elsewhere in the rankings, French Open winner Justine Henin-Hardenne moves up two places to No.3, runner-up Svetlana Kuznetsova climbs four places to No.6, while last year’s finalist Mary Pierce falls three positions to No.9. There are no new entrants into the top 10.

Ana’s next tournament is the Ordina Open in s’Hertogenbosch, which begins next Monday. Ana does not have any points to defend from the corresponding week 12 months ago. In fact, Ana has just 130 points to defend between now and the beginning of the indoor season in October.
