Ana today attended the launch of the 2010 Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open. She hit with Spanish legend and Madrid tournament director Manolo Santana, then took part in a press conference alongside the mayor of the city.
"I am really looking forward to playing here," said Ana, who has been granted a wild card into the 8-16 May event. It will be her first appearance in the Spanish capital since she reached the semi-finals of the Sony Ericsson Championships there in 2007.
"I was very impressed when I visited the site of the Caja Mágica while it was being built several years ago, and with all novelties announced today, I’m sure that it will be a great tournament."
Santana commented: "We are very happy to have Ana here today, and also during the tournament. She's a great player and a great girl."
The Madrid organizers, led by former professional Ion Tiriac, are renowned for their innovation – they plan to introduce blue clay in the future – and announced a host of technological for this year's tournament, including an interactive fan zone that allows spectators to send messages to their favourite players.
