Ana overcame her first test of the 2010 Generali Ladies Linz by beating Germany's Julia Goerges 7-6(6), 6-2. The 22-year-old has won all three of her Linz matches in straight sets and moves into her fourth semi-final of the year.
The opening games of the 85-minute match featured a number of flashy winners from both players; it was quickly apparent that Goerges would provide a far sterner test than Ana's previous two opponents this week.
Both players were aggressive and sought to hit winners from all angles, but Ana's greater consistency was telling and she broke to lead 4-2.
However, as Ana served for the set at 5-3 the German hit a hot streak and broke back, saving three set points. She piled the pressure on Ana and held a set point at 6-5 in the tiebreak.
Ana responded superbly, saving it with a service winner, and she won the next two points as well to seal the opening set.
The first four games of the second set all went with serve but Ana's superiority came to the fore in the fifth game, while Goerges' level dropped somewhat. Ana broke, and added another break two games later.
Two aces in final game enabled Ana to get to 40-0, and the match was over when Goerges hit a forehand wide.
"She is a very tough opponent. It was a close match and the first set was decided by a few points here and there," said Ana.
"I had some chances early on to close. I was serving at 5-3 but I didn't take advantage of the opportunity. She played very well. I am really pleased that I used my chances later in the first set and that gave me a good push for the second set.
"She had a set point and I had a big serve, so I was really pleased with that. Then I had another big serve to give me set point. I was really pleased with that."
Ana will take on Italian world No.46 Roberta Vinci in the last four on Saturday. She holds a 3-0 head-to-head record against the 27-year-old, with their most recent tie coming in Brisbane last year, a match Ana won in three sets.
Saturday's match is scheduled as the second of the day and is set to begin sometime after 3.30pm local time (9.30am Eastern Time). Click here for live point-by-point scoring from the TipsArena Linz.
