Ana reached her second semi-final of the year thanks to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Vesna Dolonc from Serbia at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow. The 24-year-old now faces an intriguing clash with former US Open champion and top seed Samantha Stosur on Saturday.
Both players appeared rather unsure on serve during the first. Ana got broken in the opening game of the match, but recovered instantly and surged into a 4-1 lead.
However, she could not maintain her advantage and the pair levelled at 4-4. After easily holding serve in the ninth game, Ana wangled a break point and eventually clinched the first set, as a double fault from Dolonc while facing set point gave the final blow.
After she had opened the second set with two double faults, Ana found a second breath and produced some of her best tennis. The fourth seed dropped just one more point on serve and broke the world No.160 twice to secure her place in the semi-finals after 66 minutes.
Ana has a 2-2 head-to-head record against Stosur, who reached the last four with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic.
The match is scheduled to begin on Saturday sometime after 2.30pm local time (12.30pm Central European Time; 6.30am Eastern Time). Click here for live point-by-point scoring from the Olympic Stadiium.
