Ana has gone up one place in the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings, which are published today. She moves above Ai Sugiyama to take 19th spot.
Ana stays at No.20 in the Porsche Race, while her doubles ranking rises 12 places to No.82. The changes are a consequence of Ana’s performances at the Acura Classic in San Diego last week, where she reached the third round of the singles and the second round of the doubles.
Elsewhere in the rankings, Nicole Vaidisova breaks into the top 10, rising to a new career high of No.9, while Mary Pierce falls four places to 13th.
Ana, who is in action at this week’s JPMorgan Chase Open presented by Herbalife in Los Angeles, has no ranking points to defend from the corresponding week in 2005. The breakdown of the 56-woman event is as follows: First Round, 1pt; Second Round, 14pts; Third Round, 25pts; Quarter-Finals, 49pts; Semi-Finals, 88pts; Runner-Up, 137pts; Winner, 195pts.
Ana is in action today alongside Maria Kirilenko in the doubles event. The pair face Liezel Huber and Sania Mirza in the fifth and final match on Court 4. It is expected to begin sometime after 6pm local time (3am Tuesday Central European Time).
