Ana rises to highest ranking in five years

Ana's run to the Western & Southern Open final last week in Cincinnati means that she has climbed two spots to No.9 in the latest WTA singles rankings, which are published today.

The 26-year-old enjoys her highest ranking since May 2009. More importantly, her climb means that she is guaranteed to be seeded among the top eight at the U.S. Open, which begins in one week. Again, it will be her highest Grand Slam seeding since May 2009.

Ana has also risen two places to No.6 in the Road To Singapore, the rankings that determine the qualifers for the WTA Finals.

Promisingly, her ranking points tally for 2014 (3,635) is already more than the total of the player (Caroline Wozniacki) who ended the 2013 season in 10th place, meaning that in theory, Ana could end the season in the top 10 - for the first time since 2008 - without playing another match this year.
