Ana has climbed one place in the new Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Rankings. She currently finds herself at No.18, her highest ranking this year. In the Porsche Race, which determines qualifiers for the season-ending WTA Championships, Ana is ranked 27th.
Despite not competing last week Ana moves up one place thanks to Dinara Safina’s inability to defend the points she accrued by winning the Open Gaz de France in Paris 12 months ago: the Russian drops three places to 20th.
Having lost in the first round of the Proximus Diamond Games last year, Ana has just one point to defend in Antwerp this week. The $600,000 Tier II event offers the following ranking points: First Round, 1; Second Round, 25; Quarter-Finals, 49; Semi-Finals, 88; Runner-Up, 137; Winner, 195.
The world’s top 16 remains unchanged but at the top of the rankings, No.2 Amelie Mauresmo has narrowed the gap to No.1 Kim Clijsteres to just 43 points after she won in Paris last week.
The week’s biggest riser within the top 100 is Croatian Jelena Kostanic, who moves up 19 places to No.50 courtesy of an appearance in the Pattaya Open final in Thailand.
