Ana produced a dominant display to defeat world No.421 Carol Zhao and set up a quarter-final clash with top seed Serena Williams. The 26-year-old triumphed 6-1, 6-1 in just 55 minutes.
Considering that 19-year-old Zhao has never before won a main tour match that was completed (she advanced to round two when her opponent retired while a set down), it was always likely to be a tough task for the Canadian.
So it proved, with Ana scoring two breaks in each set. Zhao won just three points on her second serve in the entire match.
Ana's reward is her third meeting of the year with world No.1 Serena Williams.
The American 17-time Grand Slam champion reached the last eight thanks to a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic.
Williams leads the head-to-head series 5-1. They have won one match each this year, both of the encounters going to three sets.
