Ana sweeps to Monterrey title

Ana clinched the 13th title of her career by beating compatriot Jovana Jaksic 6-2, 6-1 in the final of the Abierto Monterrey.

137th-ranked Jaksic was playing in only her third WTA main draw - the first was in Monterrey 12 months ago - and freely spoke about Ana being her "idol" before the match.

Nevertheless, it was Jaksic who scored a break in the opening game, only for Ana to break back and assert her superiority. She won in just 61 minutes.

"I would love to congratulate Jovana. She has had a great week," said Ana during the trophy presentation. "We've become really close friends and it was nice to make the final for both of us.

"Thanks to my team. You guys have been amazing.

"Thanks to all the fans who have been staying up all night watching my matches.

"Thanks to you, the people here, you make it amazing to play here. You support us so well I really hope to be back here next year."

Ana earns 280 ranking points for this tournament victory and she is projected to move up to eighth in the Road To Singapore on Monday.
