Ana comfortably reached the second round of the Rogers Cup Presented by National Bank in Toronto with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei. The 25-year-old was dominant throughout and outclassed her opponent in barely 55 minutes.
The 16th seed took control of the match from the very beginning, although Hsieh sold her life dearly during the rallies, hitting some blistering sharp-angled groundstrokes from time to time.
The world No.41 managed to fight herself past four break points in the second game, but she eventually succumbed to Ana’s pressure on the fifth occasion.
Ana fully took advantage of Hsieh weaker serving and she surged into a 5-1 lead, scoring another break. Hsieh would come to deliver eight double faults throughout the match and hold serve just twice.
Ana was similarly dominant in the second set. After the first three games all went against the server, the 16th seed was the first to hold in game four. She steamrolled into a 5-2 lead and sealed victory in fine style with a winning serve,
Ana’s supremacy was visible in the statistics, with winners-to-unforced errors figures of 17-10 and a first serve percentage of 70.
"I did serve well so I'm happy with my performance," said Ana in her on-court interview.
Ana will meet Flavia Pennetta from Italy in the second round on Wednesday.
