Ana is through to the second round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo. The 11th seed was leading 6-3, 2-0 when Czech Andrea Hlavackova retired due to a left thigh injury.
Prior to the abandonment of the match, Ana had been dominant on serve and applied pressure to the 25-year-old's delivery on the fast court at the Ariake Coliseum. Ana spurned early chances to break before she scored a crucial break in the eighth game, and then served out the set.
Ana will take on Ursula Radwanska in the second round on Tuesday after the Pole defeated Japan's Kurumi Nara 6-2, 6-4.
The match is scheduled as the second of the day on Court 1, and is set to begin sometime after 12pm local time (5am Central European Time; 11pm Monday Eastern Time).
