Since the first round of the Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open in Cincinnati, Ana has been using a new model of Yonex racket. The 22-year-old now uses the new EZONE, a black frame with a 100 square-inch head.
Ana beat ninth seed Victoria Azarenka in that match and, her injury-enforced retirement to Kim Clijsters in the Cincinnati semi-finals notwithstanding, has only lost one match since making the racket switch - to Clijsters in the US Open fourth round. Her win-loss record of completed matches with the new racket is an impressive 7-1.
"I really love this new racket," said Ana. "It's very powerful, but it has a larger sweetspot too, and that definitely helps for off-centre hits. It gives you more margin for error.
"I've always liked playing with black racket so I'm a fan of the design too," added Ana, who used a black Yonex racket to win the 2008 French Open.
The EZONE that Ana uses is the flagship model in a new range of three sticks that Yonex has launched: the other two are the EZONE Lite (20 grams lighter than Ana's racket) and the EZONE 107 (larger head size).
"Yonex have done a great job of developing a racket that has helped me improve my performance. I liked it as soon as I tried it."
