Ana takes on world No.54 Annika Beck of Germany in the second round of the Australian Open on Wednesday. It will be the second meeting between the pair, following Ana's 6-1, 6-1 win in Tokyo last year.
Beck comes into the match with her confidence high, having crushed 109th-ranked Petra Martic 6-0, 6-0 in round one yesterday. Ana reached round two thanks to a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands, in what she admitted was "not a great match".
If she reaches round four Ana would likely meet five-time champion and red-hot favourite Serena Williams. Asked if players held a belief that they too could challenge for the title, Ana said: "You never know. You go out there and you give your best. We all thought that last year, too. Then, she got knocked out by Stephens.
"It's tennis. It can go either way. She's definitely the hot favorite. She's been playing amazing tennis. She's on top of the women's game, there is no doubt about that.
"But I think a lot of girls are out for a challenge. I think you just want to go out there and give your best and you never know what can happen on any given day."
During her post-match press conference Ana also revealed her goal for the season: "In this year I really want to make Singapore, the Championships. That's my big goal. I'm aware I have to work hard towards it.
"I had a good start, but still plenty more weeks of tennis. Still many, many matches to come.
"But that would be my biggest goal for this season."
The match is scheduled as the fourth and last of the day on Show Court 2. It is expected to begin sometime after 5pm local time (7am Central European Time; 1am Eastern Time).
