Ana vs Bouchard

Ana takes on world No.31 Eugenie Bouchard in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open on Tuesday. It will be the second meeting between the pair, after Bouchard triumped in the second round at Wimbledon last year.

The Canadian won quite easily on that occasion, running out a 6-3, 6-3 winner in what turned out to be Ana's final match under the guidance of coach Nigel Sears.

The 20-year-old is appearing in a Grand Slam quarter-final for the first time in her career. She beat wild cards Haochen Tang and Casey Dellacqua, Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano and American Lauren Davis on her way to the last eight.

Ana dropped her first set in defeating world No.1 Serena Williams in the fourth round on Sunday. It was one of the very best wins of Ana's career. "It's amazing" enthused Ana.  "This victory means so much to me. I worked so hard and all the hard work, it's paying off."

The mean ranking of Bouchard's opponent is a lowly 193.75, whilst Ana has beaten four players with an average ranking of just 41.25. That fact, allied to Ana's own superior ranking, and supreme current form, mean that she enters the match as the firm favourite.

It represents a different type of challenge to the Williams clash, which Ana entered as the firm underdog, bereft of any pressure. However, she certainly won't underestimate the Canadian, describing her as part of "the future of women's tennis", and remembering her "tough match" against her at Wimbledon.

Looking ahead to the match, Bouchard commented: "I saw a little bit of the [Williams] match, so she was definitely playing really well.  I'm going to look forward to a really tough battle.  We're in the quarters now, so she deserves to be there.  No one's going to give it to me, so it's going to be a good match.

Ana's win-loss record in Grand Slam quarter-finals is 4-2.

The match is scheduled as the second of the day on Rod Laver Arena and is expected to begin sometime after 12.30pm local time (2.30am Central European Time; 8.30pm Monday Eastern Time).
