Ana starts her French Open campaign when she takes on world No.46 Caroline Garcia in the opening round on Tuesday. It will be the first meeting between the pair.
Garcia is a 20-year-old Frenchwoman and one of the fastest-rising stars on the WTA circuit. She ended last season ranked No. 75, but has already risen 29 spots during the first months of the year.
In April, Garcia captured her first WTA title in Bogota, scoring her first ever top 10 win by beating Jelena Jankovic in the final. In doing so she began to fulfil the faith that ATP world No.8 Andy Murray showed in her: three years ago the Briton tweeted that she would be a future world No.1.
Garcia showed some excellent form in Madrid three weeks ago: she came through qualifying before beating former French Open finalist Sara Errani and world No.8 Angelique Kerber en route to the quarter-finals. She eventually fell in the last eight stage to world No.3 Agnieszka Radwanska in a close three set match.
Garcia is appearing in her ninth senior Grand Slam event; she has reached the second round on five occasions. Ana, on the other hand, is ranked seventh amongst active players when it comes to winning first round matches; she boasts 33 wins from 37 opening rounds.
