Ana takes on Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic in the first round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo on Monday. It will be the first meeting between the pair as seniors; Ana leads the head-to-head series 2-0, based on two wins in 2003 at junior level.
Hlavackova recently reached the fourth round of the US Open, where she lost to Serena Williams, who beat Ana a round later in the quarter-finals. The 25-year-old is currently ranked 62 in the world, just four places off her best ever ranking.
Despite her recent fine form, Hlavackova only enters the main draw as a Lucky Loser: she lost to Britain's Heather Watson in the second and final round of qualifying, but benefited from a withdrawal.
"The conditions here are fast", said Ana. "I think this should suit my game. I really want to pick up where I left on in New York, where I played some very good tennis.
"We're getting towards the end of the season but I'm feeling very motivated. I have a lot of events left and there is a lot to play for."
