Ana takes on world No.4 Jelena Jankovic in the second round of the Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open on Wednesday. Both players received a bye in the first round, having been among the final four remaining players at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome last week.
Ana boasts a 6-2 head-to-head supremacy over her compatriot, who is three years her senior. The 22-year-old has also triumphed in both of the clay court encounters between the pair, including an historic victory in the semi-finals of the French Open two years ago, a result that enabled Ana to become the first Serbian woman ever to reach No.1 in the singles rankings. A maiden Grand Slam followed two days later.
However, Jankovic won the last match the two contested, on a hard court in Doha six months after their Parisian duel.
Jankovic has been in fine form of late. She lost to clay-court queen Justine Henin in the quarter-finals of Stuttgart before reaching the final in Rome. She has won 22 matches already this year, compared to Ana's nine.
