Ana takes on compatriot Jelena Jankovic in the Australian Open third round on Friday. It will be the 11th meeting between the pair, with Ana leading the head-to-head series 7-3.
The two former world No.1s clashed most famously at Roland Garros in 2008, when the top ranking was on the line, in the semi-finals. On that occasion Ana triumphed in three sets, their only previous meeting at a Grand Slam tournament.
On hard courts the head-to-head record is much more even: 3-2 to Ana. That includes victory in their most recent clash, at Indian Wells in 2011.
"We have had some amazing matches over the years," said Ana about her Fed Cup teammate. "We obviously know each other's games very well, and we have very different styles. I think that makes for entertaining tennis and it's always a great challenge playing Jelena."
Jankovic, like Ana, narrowly reached the third round with a three-set win. She defeated world No.129 Maria Joao Koehler 2-6, 7-6, 6-2.
Ana will be looking to improve upon her own performance in round two, where she defeated 118th-ranked Yung-Jan Chan 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.
"Yesterday's match wasn't the best I've played, but sometimes you just have to dig in and battle, when you're not playing so well. In that regard it was a pleasing victory," Ana wrote on Facebook.
