Ana takes on American world No.114 Christina McHale in the third round of the US Open on Saturday. It will be the third meeting between the pair, with Ana leading the head-to-head series 2-0.
Ana's victories both came in straight sets last year, at the OIympics and China Open.
21-year-old McHale has been ranked as high as 24 in the world but she has struggled this year, failing to win back-to-back main draw matches since February and losing five matches in a row prior to the US Open.
However, she upset 45th-ranked Julia Goerges in round one and followed up that win with a three-set defeat of Russia's Elina Svitolina yesterday.
Ana has been in fine form, dropping just five games in the opening two rounds. Despite her success the former world No.1 was cautious when asked how close she is to returning to the top of the game.
"I think I still have a lot of work to be done, in all honesty. Like you said, I have been there so I know how it feels. It's very tough competition out there.
"I have to be more consistent and on higher level. It's no secret in that. I have to start winning the matches that I had against Azarenka and Li Na in last couple of tournaments, these are the matches I need to win in order to get back there.
"It's still a long way. It's still also to enjoy the process of getting back there. That's what I'm realizing. I've really put my head down and I want to achieve that."
