Ana takes on world No.11 Nadia Petrova in the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart on Thursday. It will be the 14th meeting between the pair, with Ana leading the head-to-head series 8-5.
Four of the 13 prevous encounters have taken place on clay. Petrova recorded the first victory, a 6-2, 6-2 win in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros eight years ago, but Ana has won the past three, including a 7-5, 6-1 win at the Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open last year.
At the age of 30, Petrova is something of a veteran, but the former world No.2 is knocking on the door of the top 10 and showed her class at the tail-end of last season when she powered to the Tournament of Champions title with a 6-2, 6-1 demolition of former world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki.
Even more impressively, she romped to the Toray Pan Pacific Open title in Tokyo with wins over third-ranked Agnieszka Radwanska, No.6 Sara Errani and No.8 Samantha Stosur.
"I've played Nadia many times over the years, so we know each other's games very well.
"I've made a very good start to the clay court season and this is a new challenge that I am looking forward to. It's very tough, to play the world No.11 in the second round - that shows the strength of this tournament."
