Ana takes on world No.44 Alison Riske in the first round of the U.S. Open on Tuesday.
It will be the second meeting between the pair: Ana triumphed 7-5, 7-6 in Auckland on 31 December, 2013, en route to winning the title.
24-year-old Riske, like Ana, reached the fourth round at Flushing Meadows last year. In fact, the two could have faced each other in the quarter-finals.
Riske upset 13th-ranked Italian Flavia Pennetta in New Haven last week, on her way to the quarter-finals, which represents her best tournament finish this year.
The American, who reached a career-high ranking of 40 in June this year, has not won three matches in a row at WTA level since last year’s U.S. Open.
“It’s been a good summer for me so far,” said Ana, who is currently enjoying her highest ranking (9th) since May 2009, and her highest seeding (8th) at a Grand Slam since the 2009 French Open.
“Cincinnati was a very good tournament for me and I feel like I’m on the right path.
“Unfortunately the U.S. Open has always been the most difficult Grand Slam for me, but I hope to change that this year.”
