Over the next three weeks we will be chatting with Ana's mother, Dragana, about Ana's development as a tennis player, life on the tennis circuit and what Ana is really like.
They say that if you truly want to get to know a person you must first meet their parents. Spending just 20 minutes with Dragana Ivanovic is enough to understand how Ana has become such a charming, polite and engaging young woman.
Ana has risen one place to No.17 in the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Rankings, which are published today. Ana swaps places with Russian Elena Likhovsteva, who was unable to defend her points from the corresponding week in 2005.
Ana’s position in the Porsche Race, the standings that determine the eight qualifiers for the season-ending WTA Championships, falls one place to 20th, largely because she was inactive last week. The Serbian’s doubles ranking, meanwhile, stays at No.89.
Vanja: Hay ANA!!! im Vanja, i live in Australia, born in Bosnia. i want to ask you besides Federer who is your favourite player? Who are you tour friends? who (apart from Novak) are you close to? Do you know Mario Ancic???
Ana: Hey Vanja! It’s hard to say. You don’t look at them as someone like an idol because you are all the time with them. You look at them as players like yourself. It’s hard to say who is my favourite besides Federer. When I was growing up I liked Agassi though. I am friends with Mario Ancic’s sister, Sanja, by the way! Regards, Ana.
Watching Ana in action is set to get a whole lot more personal after the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour announced a number of broadcasting innovations. They are aimed at enhancing the experience for television viewers of women’s tennis.
The changes, some of which debuted at the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami last week, include:
1) Pre-match player interviews
2) Interviews with coaches during matches
3) Placing wireless microphones on players during practice sessions
Mladen: Hi Ana, considering that I already know a lot about your tennis life, I would like to know which movies you like to watch and what music do you listen to?
Ana: Hi Mladen! I don’t have one favourite movie but two that I like very much are The Devil’s Advocate and Lajanje na Zvezde. My favourite music is R&B but I don’t have one favourite band. Regards, Ana.
GvoX_87: Ana, Greetings. One question. Do you think that once you will become #1 in the WTA rankings? Thanks you in advance. THE_BOYZ
Ana has dropped two places to No.18 in the latest Official Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Rankings. Her doubles ranking has gone up seven places to No.88 while she has also climbed one place to No.19 in the Porsche Race.
Ana’s fall is largely due to 39 points being removed from her total. She earned 87 by reaching the quarter-finals of the Nasdaq-100 Open last year, but lost one round earlier the Miami event last week so was awarded only 48. Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Elena Likhovtseva overtake the Serbian.
Sania Mirza, with whom Ana played doubles at the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami, enjoyed the experience of competing alongside the Serbian. The pair reached the quarter-finals in their first event together.
“It’s very nice playing with Ana,” Mirza told anaivanovic.com. “She’s a great girl. I’ve known her from the juniors so I’ve known her for years now. It was fun, we were enjoying it, even when we lost.
Today we publish the first answers in our re-launched Ask Ana feature, the section of the site that allows you to ask Ana your own questions. Many thanks for all your questions so far. We hope to have more answers from Ana shortly.
