Ana captured her second career title – and her first at Tier I level – by thrashing former world No.1 Martina Hingis 6-2, 6-3 in the final of the Rogers Cup.

Ana, clad in an attractive light orange adidas top and black skirt, played a peach of a match. She completely overwhelmed the world No.13 in a 59-minute display of relentless power.

With this victory, undoubtedly the greatest accomplishment of her career so far, Ana wins the US Open series, which effectively means that she was the best player during the pre-US Open American hard court season.

Hingis wary of Ana threat Aug 21st 2006

Former world No.1 Martina Hingis, Ana’s opponent in today’s Rogers Cup final, is not underestimating the 18-year-old.

“She’s a very good player, very high potential,” said Hingis, who has never before played Ana. “She’s definitely impressed this week.

Ana took just 13 minutes to win the final three games of her rain-delayed Rogers Cup semi-final against Dinara Safina. She will face former world No.1 Martina Hingis in her first ever Tier I final later today.

Play was suspended overnight at the Rogers Cup as Ana led ninth seed Dinara Safina 6-1, 3-4 in their semi-final match.

Ana raced through the opening set. She was virtually unplayable as she produced some of her finest tennis yet to render the Russian a virtual spectator. The set was Ana’s in just 23 minutes. Fittingly, she sealed it with her third ace.

Ana is into her first singles semi-final of the year at the Tier I Rogers Cup after overwhelming world No.24 Katarina Srebotnik 6-4, 6-4. It was a remarkable display of power hitting by the 13th seed.

Ana, wearing her new black adidas two-piece outfit, made a shaky start and was broken in her first service game. She double faulted to hand the Slovenian a 2-0 lead.

But the 18-year-old appeared to settle in the next game. She hit two thumping forehand down-the-line winners off Srebotnik serves and converted her first break point.
