Ana takes on world No.176 Elena Svitolina in the first round of the US Open on Tuesday. Svitolina is a 17-year-old Ukrainian who won through three rounds of qualifying to take her place in the main draw.
Svitolina was runner-up in the girls' singles event at Wimbledon earlier this year, having lost in the first round of qualifying for the ladies' competition. Tomorrow's match represents only her second appearance in the main draw of a Tour level event: she lost in the opening round of the Baku Cup in July.
"She's new to the Tour so I don't know too much about her," said Ana. "But my coach has done his research and I won't be underestimating her. I remember how fearless I was when I was her age - I'd like to think that I was a handful for players back then as well."
Monday's play was interrupted by a sudden, violent downpour, accompanied by gale force winds, that abruptly forced a suspension in play of several hours.
