Ana vs Zheng

Ana takes on 21st seed Jie Zheng of China in the second round of the US Open on Wednesday, following her 6-3, 6-2 victory over Ekaterina Makarova in round one on Monday.

The match will be the fourth meeting between Ana and the 27-year-old, with the Chinese player leading the head-to-head series 2-1.

Ana won their first meeting in three sets at the Rogers Cup in Montreal in 2006, on her way to the title.

The two most recent encounters do not hold such positive memories for Ana: Zheng beat her in the third round of Wimbledon in 2008, and followed up that win with a tense three-set victory in her native Beijing several months later.

Zheng reached round two courtesy of a 7-6, 7-6 win over Switzerland's world No.42 Timea Bacsinszky.

"It's going to be a tough opponent," said Ana after her win over Makarova. "I did have tough matches against her in Beijing and in Wimbledon.

"It's going to be a little bit different than today. She's playing a lot faster than Makarova probably.

"But I'm just happy the way I'm at at the moment. I'm just going to approach it as another fun match. I really have nothing to lose, and just want to have fun.

"And if I play like I played last few weeks, I know I can win this match.  It's going to be tough, but I can do it."

The match is scheduled to begin at 11am local time (5pm Central European Time) on Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest purpose-built arena in tennis. Click here for live point-by-point scoring from the Billie-Jean King USTA National Tennis Center.
