Career-best ranking

Ana has climbed to her highest ever ranking. In the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles list, published today, the 18-year-old moves up two places to No.15.

The result is a consequence of Ana’s third round finish at the US Open: she leapfrogs Anna-Lena Groenefeld and last year’s runner-up Mary Pierce.

Ana’s doubles ranking also rises to an all-time high – up seven spots to No.52 – after she reached round three at Flushing Meadows alongside Maria Kirilenko. Meanwhile, she is 13th in the Porsche Race, the standings that determine the eight qualifiers for the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships.

Ana is competing in the Wismilak International in Bali this week. She has no points to defend from the corresponding week in 2005. The ranking points breakdown for the Tier III event is as follows: First Round, 1pt; Second Round, 19pts; Quarter-Finals, 37pts; Semi-Finals, 66pts; Runner-Up, 103pts; Winner, 145pts.
