Ana reached the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart with a straightforward 6-3, 6-2 victory over world No. 131 Andrea Petkovic.
Ana made a strong start, comfortably holding serve to 15 in the opening game before earning two break points in the next. However, she was unable to capitalize as the German got rid of both break opportunities. In fact, it was Ana who surrendered her serve in the next game, but she easily made up the arrears, levelling the contest at 2-2. .
From this point on, Ana took control of the match. She converted her fifth break point in the sixth game to surge into a 4-2 lead and routinely wrapped up the set.
With the opening set under her belt, Ana quickly forced the decision in set two, although she was a shade fortunate when a forehand skidded off the baseline to secure a break in the first game.
Petkovic showed that she is on her way back to the top - she was ranked in the top 10 two seasons ago - but she lacked the necessary match practice and consistency to compete with Ana.
The German was too erratic, while Ana cut down her unforced errors and advanced into a 4-0 lead. The 25-year-old had to save three break points in the second set, but was no longer really threatened as she served out the match after 72 minutes of play.
Ana will take on Nadia Petrova from Russia in the round two. The eighth seed beat German qualifier Dinah Pfizenmaier 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
