Ana walks on water! Jan 13th 2007

Ana today launched her new adidas outfit at “adilibria”, a fun media event held at the Circa Pooldeck in Melbourne. Ana starred alongside Australian swimmer Jodie Henry, a triple Olympic gold medallist and fellow adidas athlete, as she showcased the dress she will exclusively wear for her first round match at the Australian Open on Tuesday.

Australian Open draw Jan 11th 2007

Ana will play world No.57 Vania King in the first round of the Australian Open, which begins on Monday. Ana is seeded 13th at the year's first Grand Slam and could meet top seed Maria Sharapova in the fourth round.

Ana has never before played the 17-year-old American, who won the Thailand Open in Bangkok in October.

Should she overcome KIng, Ana will play either Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska or Varvara Lepchenko of Uzbekistan. No.22 seed and former world No.9 Vera Zvonareva of Russia is Ana's seeded third round opponent in what is a very difficult draw.

December competition winner Jan 11th 2007

Philipp Doms from Austria is the latest competition winner. He correctly answered the December competition question – that Ana reached eight quarter-finals during 2006. Congratulations to him, he receives a personally signed photograph of Ana and a Wilson six racket thermo.

Ana was beaten 6-4, 6-2 by world No.11 Nicole Vaidisova in the quarter-finals of the Medibank International.

It was a disappointing performance from the 19-year-old, who served seven double faults and was never able to get her ground game going.

Ana heads to Melbourne for the Australian Open having won four of her six matches so far in 2007.

Game, Pet and match Jan 9th 2007

Ana is into the quarter-finals of the Medibank International. She was well in control of her second round match against Nadia Petrova, leading 6-2, 4-2, when the world No.6 retired injured. The Russian was suffering from an abdominal strain.

Rankings and scheduling information Jan 8th 2007

Ana’s ranking is unchanged at No.14 in the first list of the 2007 season, which is published today. Her standing in the Porsche Race is joint-tenth and her doubles ranking is up one place to No.50.

Ana’s quarter-final appearance in the Gold Coast tournament last week sees her points total increase to 1,087 but she is still 57 points behind world No.13 Anna Chakvetadze.

Ana cracks Casey Jan 7th 2007

Ana scored a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win over world No.157 Casey Dell'Acqua in the first round of the Medibank International.

The 19-year-old wrapped up the first set in just 27 minutes, never once losing a point on her first serve.

Ana broke for 2-1 after a short rain delay at the beginning of the second set, but the Australian broke twice in a row to lead 4-2. Ana then won four games in a row and clinched victory after an hour and 18 minutes.
