Ana moves up two places in rankings Apr 16th 2007

Ana has risen two places to No.15 in the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings, which are published today. She lies just two spots from her career-best position of No.13.

The 19-year-old is also ranked 15th in the Race to the Championships, the standings that determine the eight qualifers for the season-ending compeition in Madrid. Ana's doubles ranking is unchanged at 88.

Zvonareva ends Family Circle Cup hopes Apr 13th 2007

Ana was beaten 6-3, 6-3 by ninth seed Vera Zvonareva in the third round of the Family Circle Cup.

Ana was broken in the opening game but hit back immediately, winning four straight points on the 22-year-old's serve to level.

Another break ensued, meaning that the first three games all went against serve, until Zvonareva held to lead 3-1.

Ana missed a break point oppportunity in the sixth game and was broken for a second time as she served to stay in the opening set.

March competition winner Apr 12th 2007

Nikola Sutic from Serbia is the latest winner of the monthly competition. He correctly named Tatiana Golovin as the player Ana had defeated more times than any other on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour by the end of February.

Congratulations to Nikola, he wins an adidas shirt signed by Ana.

The April competition will be launched shortly.

Ana advances to round three Apr 11th 2007

Ana reached the third round of the Family Circle Cup with a 6-0, 6-7, 6-4 win over world No.53 Gisela Dulko. She beat the Argentine in two hours and 18 minutes to set up a clash with ninth seed Vera Zvonareva.

The 19-year-old faced three break points in the opening game of the match. After saving them all she then powered through the set, breaking Dulko three times out of three. It was the third 'bagel' set Ana has won this year.

Amelia Island photos Apr 9th 2007

Images of Ana in action at the Bausch & Lomb Championships in Amelia Island are now in the Gallery.

Ana's rankings are unchanged this week. She is 17th in singles, 88th in doubles and 14th in the Race. However, her semi-final placing in Amelia Island last week means that she is now within striking distance of those above her.
