Brilliant Bammer beats Ana Mar 14th 2007

Ana lost 6-7, 6-0, 6-3 to Austrian Sybille Bammer in the fourth round of the Pacific Life Open. The left-hander, ranked 46 in the world, produced a superlative performance to end the advance of the No.10 seed.

Ana made a fine start. She won the first seven points and raced into a 3-0 lead. However, from 40-15 ahead in the fourth game she was broken back, and the momentum of the match quickly shifted.

Djokovic reports on Ana win Mar 12th 2007

By special arrangement, ATP world No.13 Novak Djokovic kindly agreed to report on Ana's third round match. She beat Alicia Molik 6-2, 6-1 to reach the fourth round of the Pacific Life Open:

Updated: Ana crushes King Mar 11th 2007

Ana defeated world No.78 Vania King 6-3, 6-0 in just 57 minutes to progress to the third round of the Pacific Life Open.

Having trailed 3-1, Ana produced a regal performance to brush aside the 18-year-old American. The second half of the match was a fiesta of fabulous forehands by the world No.14.

Updated: Pacific Life Open draw Mar 6th 2007

Ana has been drawn to face either world No.78 Vania King or qualifier Katerina Bondarenko in the second round of the Pacific Life Open, which begins on Wednesday. She is seeded tenth so receives a first round bye.

Ana beat King 6-2, 6-0 in the first round of the Australian Open in January in the pair’s only meeting to date. She lost to Bondarenko in the junior Wimbledon final three years ago. The second round match is set to take place on Saturday.

Ana stays at No.14 Mar 5th 2007

Ana is unchanged at No.14 in the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Singles rankings, which are published today. Barring any withdrawals, she will be seeded 10th for this week’s Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells.

The 19-year-old slips one place to No.9 in the Race to the Sony Ericsson Championships. Her doubles ranking is 74.

At the top of the rankings, Justine Henin’s victory in Doha last week sees her close the gap on Maria Sharapova to just 33 points.
