Hopman Cup draw released

The seedings and draw for the 2011 Hopman Cup have been announced, with Ana and Novak Djokovic being named as the No.1 pairing. The event, in its 23rd year, takes place in Perth, Australia during 1-8 January.

Each country is represented by a mixed team of one man and one woman. Singles matches are played followed by a mixed doubles rubber, with a total of three points on offer to each team for each tie.

The seedings were selected by the organizing committee; Ana and Djokovic's combined ranking of 27 as of today makes them the second-highest placed duo in the field: Americans Serena Williams and John Isner have the highest combined ranking (22).

“This is the most we have ever deliberated over who would be top seed,” said Tournament Director Paul McNamee. “Both the USA and Serbia have outstanding credentials and it was a close call.  It’s clear this is one of the strongest fields we have ever seen."

Serbia has been placed in Group A alongside Belgium (Justine Henin & Steve Darcis), Australia (Alicia Molik & Lleyton Hewitt) and Kazakhstan (Yaroslava Shvedova & Andrey Golubev).

They will begin their campaign against Kazakhstan on Sunday 2 January before meeting the hosts two days later. On Thursday 6 January they will face Belgium, which means Ana versus Henin.

"It's such a good field," said Ana. "I am really looking forward to it, especially the opportunity to play Justine in only the first week of the season. Looking at the line-ups, it's clear that there aren't any easy matches in either group. I'm sure it's going to be a great event."

Group B consists of the United States (Williams & Isner), Great Britain (Laura Robson & Andy Murray), Italy (Francesca Schiavone & Potito Starace) and France (Kristina Mladenovic & Gael Monfils).
