Former world No.4 Anke Huber has become Ana’s mentor as part of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour’s Partners for Success program.
Ana and Anke met for the first time during the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami last month. “It was great to meet her,” said Ana.
“We had a really good talk. She’s a great person. I love talking to her. We’re going to keep in touch and I’m sure she’s going to help me a lot.”
Partners for Success is the first Mentor Program in professional sports. It pairs young players with a retired Sony Ericsson WTA Tour player who has demonstrated a commitment to excellence, integrity, success and leadership throughout her career.
The 32-year-old German was runner-up at the 1996 Australian Open and won 11 titles before retiring at the end of the 2001 season.
Ana was also keen to pay credit to Magdalena Maleeva, whom she practiced with and learnt from, before the Bulgarian retired at the end of last season.
Ana said: “We talked a little bit about the mental side of the game. She’s very experienced and a great girl. It was a nice experience working with her.”
