Ana had an MRI scan following her injury-enforced retirement against Kim Clijsters in Cincinnati on Saturday.
The results show that the 22-year-old suffered strained ankle ligaments rather than a bone fracture (on her way to hospital Ana commented that she had "felt something crack a little bit").
Ana will have further consultation and treatment in the coming days, at which time more details about her likely recovery time will emerge.
Her next scheduled tournament is the Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven, which begins on 22 August. The year's final Grand Slam, the US Open, starts on 30 August.
