Magnificent Ana moves into round three

Ana dismantled 21st seed Jie Zheng in less than an hour to reach the third round of the US Open. The 22-year-old was ruthless as she recorded a 6-3 6-0 victory.

Ana went flat out from the very beginning. In sweltering conditions, Zheng had no answer to the phenomenal strokes Ana worked out of her racket.

The former world No.1's forehand was truly the scourge of the Chinese and despite one slovenly service game at the end of the first set, she never lost command.

The 22-year-old produced a near-faultless performance throughout. She hit 22 winners, compared to just 11 unforced errors, and directed Zheng to all corners of Arthur Ashe stadium as the second set passed by in a heartbeat.

A second set whitewash scoreline seemed almost inevitable and Ana was back in the locker room, and out of the extreme heat, after just 56 minutes of play.

"I was really happy with today's game, because she's a tough opponent and I lost to her the last couple of times we played. I was expecting a really tough match.

"And actually the conditions are a little bit tough out there because it was very gusty. It's a lot different than the outside courts.

"I'm really happy with the way I played and I just stayed aggressive. Even when errors crept in, I just kept looking for the ball that I knew I had to hit.

"It worked out well, so I'm pleased."

Ana will take on Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano in round three on Friday.
