Novosti newspaper interview

Ana was recently intrerviewed by Novosti, one of the bestselling newspapers in Serbia.

The following is an extract from the Q & A session:

Which is your tournament schedule for the next year? Are you going to play more tournaments than usual, in order to win many points, or are you planning to focus on the grand slams and other major events?
Last year I had to decide my schedule quite early, because I was ranked in the year-end top 6, so there were quite a few rules and restrictions about which tournaments I could enter. Next year I have more flexibility and I don’t have to enter tournaments so early. I have a very good idea of what tournaments I will play, and I can say that my schedule probably won’t be very different from last year’s.

For which part of the season are you planning to raise the level of your tennis to maximum – in the beginning of the year (Australian open), middle or the very end?
I always try to peak for the Grand Slams, because obviously they’re the most important tournaments. I hope to be in great form for the Fed Cup too, because we will be playing in the top group for the first time.

Russia, as it seems, will not come to Belgrade with their best team. Safina has withdrawn, similar is Zvonareva, and maybe Sharapova too. Does it mean that we have better chances of winning that tie?
Russia are a very strong nation. Even if those players you mentioned aren’t there, they still have Petrova and Dementieva, who are great players. I am sure that whoever comes to Belgrade will give us a very tough match. I prefer to concentrate on my own play and not think too much about the opposition, because we can only control our own games, not the tennis of other people.
