Serene progress in Miami

Ana easily reached the third round of the Sony Open Tennis in Miami by crushing world No.55 Lauren Davis from the United States 6-1, 6-1.

The 12th seed was in command from the very first exchange and Ana dominated throughout the 62-minute match. She quickly raced into a 5-0 lead, before Davis managed to get on the scoreboard in game six. Nonetheless, Ana wrapped up the first act some instants later, remarkably winning 87 per cent of the points on her second serve during the set.

It was more of the same in the second set as the American proved no match for a relentless Ana. Davis broke Ana while down a double break, but she could never rally with the world No.13, who continued to assert her authority and book her spot in the third round.

The 26-year-old will face either Belorussian Olga Govortsova or world No.12 Flavia Pennetta from Italy in round three.

Ana has entered the doubles competition with a wild card alongside Belgium’s Kirsten Flipkens. They will meet the Slovakian-Czech pairing of Janette Husarova and Iveta Melzer in the first round.
