Ana will this week compete in the Sony Ericsson Open, which begins in Miami on Tuesday. Last week’s Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings list was used to determine seedings, and so Ana is positioned at No.25. Consequently, she receives a bye in the first round.
In round two Ana will meet the winner of the first round match between Austrian Sybille Bammer and a qualifier. Sixth seed Agnieszka Radwanska is a possible opponent in the third round, while Flavia Pennetta or one-time doubles-partner Sabine Lisicki could wait in the fourth round.
Florida resident and seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams, top seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, eighth seed Na Li and No.16 Nadia Petrova are in the same half of the draw as Ana and are possible opponents in the following two rounds.
It has been announced already that Williams will play her opening round match on Thursday night, which presumably means that Ana’s second round match will also take place on Thursday, with the bottom half second round matches scheduled for Friday.
Last year Ana reached the third round here, where she lost to Hungarian Agnes Szavay 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Victoria Azarenka took the title by beating current world No.1 Serena Williams in the final. Serena is absent this year because of injury.
The tournament is the last played on a hard-court surface, before the players head to the clay courts.
