Ana moves up to No.20 Jul 10th 2006

Ana rises two places to No.20 in the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Rankings, which are published today. The climb is due to her fourth round appearance in the Championships, Wimbledon.

The 18-year-old also moves up two places in the Porsche Race to No.19. Her doubles ranking falls 24 places to No.95 as a result of her first round defeat at Wimbledon with Maria Kirilenko.

With the season past its halfway mark, we take a look at Ana’s year so far

Including the Hopman Cup – which is owned by the ITF so is not part of her Sony Ericsson WTA Tour record – Ana has won 23 matches and lost 13 this year.

“I played some very good matches and some not so good ones. I still have many, many things to improve,” said Ana, whose ranking has fluctuated between 16 and 23 during 2006.

Sony Ericsson launches Ana commercial Jul 5th 2006

Ana is the co-star of a multi-million dollar marketing campaign to promote Sony Ericsson’s new Cyber-shot(TM) phone. Ana and her fellow Sony Ericsson WTA Tour professional Daniela Hantuchova were specially chosen by the electronics giant to film a television commercial that will be screened internationally.

The commercial, which receives its world premiere in Hong Kong today, can be viewed at a specially created website: www.nevermissashot.com.

Ana stars in Aqua Viva commercial Jul 5th 2006

Ana is the star of an advertising campaign for Aqua Viva ("Knjaz Milos") a Serbian producer of bottled water. Ana appears in a television commercial and on billboards across Belgrade.

The commercial, which can be viewed here, is an introduction to Ana’s personality. As she takes part in a number of activities, Ana talks about her dreams and beliefs.

Ana pleased with Wimbledon campaign Jul 4th 2006

Overall, Ana was happy with her Wimbledon performance. She reached the fourth round before losing to top seed Amelie Mauresmo yesterday.

“I think overall it was a good tournament for me,” said Ana. “I had a good win against Safina and I lost to the No.1 player in the world, which is nothing to be too upset about. I tried my best.”

The high point of Ana’s Wimbledon campaign was undoubtedly her three-set win over No.16 seed Dinara Safina. The 18-year-old was 6-4, 4-2 behind before completing a rousing comeback.

Ana defeated by Mauresmo Jul 3rd 2006

Ana’s Wimbledon came to an end as she was beaten 6-3, 6-4 by top seed Amelie Mauresmo. It was a brilliant display of grass court tennis by the Frenchwoman, who served expertly and attacked the net at just the rights moments during the 68-minute match.

“She was serving really good,” said Ana. “I had problems to return her serves. She was coming into the net a lot and putting pressure on me. Knowing that she was holding serve so well put more pressure on my serve.”

Ana looks forward to Mauresmo clash Jul 3rd 2006

Ana will take on top seed and world No.1 Amelie Mauresmo for the seventh time in her short career tomorrow. The match will take place on Court 1 at sometime after 2.45pm local time (3.45pm Central European Time).

“I’ve played her a lot of times,” said Ana about the Frenchwoman, who has dropped just nine games in her opening three matches and looks to be at her best. “She’s definitely a great player.

Ana reached the second week of Wimbledon for the first time after a superb come-from-behind victory over 14th seed Dinara Safina. Ana triumphed 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 in a highly entertaining encounter on Saturday lunchtime.

At 6-3, 4-2 down Ana was staring defeat in the face but the 18-year-old turned things round spectacularly, cutting out the unforced errors to blitz her opponent with an arsenal of explosive forehands.
