Rankings and scheduling information Jan 8th 2007

Ana’s ranking is unchanged at No.14 in the first list of the 2007 season, which is published today. Her standing in the Porsche Race is joint-tenth and her doubles ranking is up one place to No.50.

Ana’s quarter-final appearance in the Gold Coast tournament last week sees her points total increase to 1,087 but she is still 57 points behind world No.13 Anna Chakvetadze.

Ana cracks Casey Jan 7th 2007

Ana scored a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win over world No.157 Casey Dell'Acqua in the first round of the Medibank International.

The 19-year-old wrapped up the first set in just 27 minutes, never once losing a point on her first serve.

Ana broke for 2-1 after a short rain delay at the beginning of the second set, but the Australian broke twice in a row to lead 4-2. Ana then won four games in a row and clinched victory after an hour and 18 minutes.

Tough draw in Medibank International Jan 6th 2007

Ana has been drawn to face Australian wildcard Casey Dell'Acqua in the first round of the Medibank International in Sydney. Ana is unseeded for the Tier II event, which features 16 of the world's top 20 and begins on Sunday. Ana's showdown with the world No.157 is scheduled as the first match on Centre Court, beginning at 11am local time (1am Central European Time). Click here for live point-by-point scoring.

Ana loses to Peer Jan 4th 2007

Ana lost to fifth seed Shahar Peer from Israel in the quarter-finals of the Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts.

Peer came from behind to defeat Ana 5-7 6-4 6-4 in a match that lasted just short of two hours.

Ana thrashed world No.103 Milagros Sequera 6-1, 6-2 in the second round of the Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts. The 19-year-old, seeded third, dropped just six points on serve as she recorded victory over the Venezuelan in only 46 minutes.

Ana will face fifth seed Shahar Peer of Israel in the quarter-finals tomorrow. Peer, also 19, beat Russian Olga Poutchkova 6-3, 6-2.

Peer won their only previous match as professionals, in last year's Fed Cup competition, but Ana beat the Israeli two times out of two in juniors.

Veni, Vidi, Vinci Jan 1st 2007

Ana began the 2007 season with a convincing 7-6, 6-1 victory over Italy's Roberta Vinci in the first round of the Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts. The 19-year-old will face world No.103 Milagros Sequera of Venezuela in round two.

Ana has been drawn to face world No.85 Roberta Vinci in the first round of the Mondial Australian Women’s Hardcourts, the tournament that kicks off the 2007 season. Ana beat the Italian 6-3, 6-3 in their only meeting to-date.
