Jankovic next for Ana Aug 11th 2006

Ana’s quarter-final encounter with Jelena Jankovic will take place sometime after 1.30pm local time today (10.30pm Central European Time). It is scheduled as the second match on the Stadium Court.

The pair have met once before, in Zurich last year when Ana won 6-2, 6-1. However, Jankovic was in the midst of a slump then that saw her lose 13 out of 14 matches and slide down the rankings.

She is very much back and currently resides at No.28. Like Ana, she is yet to drop a set in three matches here. She beat defending champion Venus Williams at Wimbledon last month.

Ana is through to the last eight of the JPMorgan Chase Open with a comprehensive 6-1, 6-4 victory over world No.16 Anna-Lena Groenefeld.

Ana made a bright start, serving an ace in the first game and breaking the German immediately to move ahead 2-0. She clinched another break and led 5-0 after just 14 minutes. A fourth ace helped seal an opening set that was as one-sided as the 6-1 scoreline suggests.

That Ana was able to break Groenefeld two times out of three in set one was especially impressive given that the sixth seed produced a first serve percentage of 70.

Ana's third round match against Anna-Lena Groenefeld at the JPMorgan Chase Open will take place sometime after 3.30pm local time today (12.30am Friday Central European Time). It is scheduled as the fourth match on the Stadium Court.

Ana has played the 21-year-old, who is seeded sixth here and ranked three places above her, only once before and it was in juniors. The pair met at the Italian Open in 2002 when Ana was 14 and Groenefeld was 16. The German won 6-3, 6-0 at the clay court event.

Ana slays Santa Aug 10th 2006

Ana beat world No.40 Mara Santangelo 7-6, 7-5 to move into the third round of the JPMorgan Chase Open. She completed a hard-earned victory in one hour and 34 minutes.

The 18-year-old made a blistering start, serving two aces and winning the opening two games to love. However, she served two double faults in the third game and was broken back. Serve matched serve for the next nine games before Ana clinched the tiebreak 7-4.

Afternoon match for Ana Aug 9th 2006

Ana's second round match with Italian Mara Santangelo has been scheduled as the third on Court 4. It is expected to begin sometime after 2pm local time (11pm Central European Time).

Ana has never played the 25-year-old world No.40. Santangelo beat qualifier Ahsha Rolle 6-3, 6-1 in the opening round.

The winner of this match will face the victor of the first match on the Stadium court between Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Akiko Morigami.

Confident start in LA Aug 9th 2006

Ana beat world No.61 Vera Dushevina in the first round of the JPMorgan Chase Open. Ana defeated the Russian 6-3, 6-1 in just 52 minutes.

Playing her first ever singles match at this event, Ana won the opening 10 points on her serve. A double fault helped Dushevina earn the first break point of the match but Ana saved it and another, before holding to lead 3-2.

She faced another break point in the seventh game but held and then broke, before comfortably serving out the set.

Ana and Maria net doubles win Aug 8th 2006

Ana and Maria Kirilenko scored an impressive 7-6, 6-2 victory over Liezel Huber and Sania Mirza in the first round of the JPMorgan Chase Open doubles competition. The South African-Indian team have a combined doubles ranking of 54, compared to 119 for Ana and Maria.

Ana up to No.19 Aug 7th 2006

Ana has gone up one place in the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings, which are published today. She moves above Ai Sugiyama to take 19th spot.

Ana stays at No.20 in the Porsche Race, while her doubles ranking rises 12 places to No.82. The changes are a consequence of Ana’s performances at the Acura Classic in San Diego last week, where she reached the third round of the singles and the second round of the doubles.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Nicole Vaidisova breaks into the top 10, rising to a new career high of No.9, while Mary Pierce falls four places to 13th.

Dushevina test in LA Aug 6th 2006

Ana has been drawn to play Russia's Vera Dushevina in the first round of the JPMorgan Chase Open presented by Herbalife, which begins tomorrow. It will be the pair's third meeting.

Dushevina leads the series 2-1, having scored victories at the 2004 French Open juniors and in Dubai qualifying last year. Ana won their last match 6-3, 6-4 with an impressive performance in the opening round of Wimbledon a year ago.

Ana's diary rated No.1 Aug 4th 2006

'Tennis', the biggest-selling tennis magazine in the world, has named Ana's diary the best of all online player journals.

In its inaugural awards, named "The Webbies", Ana receives the accolade of Best Journal.

"Leave it to a teenage girl to keep the best diary on tour," wrote Sarah Unke. "Eighteen-year-old Ana Ivanovic writes at least an entry a week, making sure her fans are abreast of everything she's up to, from training and playing to to dining and shopping."
