WTA article - Ivanovic Stuns Kuznetsova Mar 31st 2005

... The most shocking entry into the quarterfinals came with Ana Ivanovic's (pictured) surprising 63 36 75 victory over Kuznetsova. Her victory against the world No.7 comes just two matches after defeating world No.12 Nadia Petrova in the second round.

"This is quite a great result for me," Ivanovic said. "But now I'm really happy that I beat two Top 15 players."

Fantastic result 6:3, 3:6, 7:5. Ana's first win against a top ten player.

She knocked out the sixth seed and the world number seven Svetlana Kuznetsova in three tight sets in the fourth round match in Miami.
An immediate break in the first set gave Ana the lead that she managed to held to and take the first set 6:3.
The second set was quite opposite, Ana was broken early and she lost the set 6-3.

Ana safely negotiated her passage into the Miami fourth round with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Czech teenage sensation Nicole Vaidisova.
Ana dominated the first set as her opponent failed to find her rhythm. The second set was a much tighter affair with both players playing well, but Ana managed to hold her nerve to win, taking the second set tiebreak 7-4.
Ana next faces a fourth round match against either the sixth seed and US Open winner Svetlana Kuznetsova or Dally Randriantefy of Madagascar.

Ana beat 10th seed Nadia Petrova in a thrilling match to reach the third round of the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami on Saturday.

Ana won the first set 6-4 and started well in the second set. She went 2-0 up but then allowed Petrova to take the next 5 games. In an amazing turnaround Ana recovered to take the second set 7-5.

Her next opponent is her doubles partner Nicole Vaidisova, who beat Jelena Jankovic 6-2, 7-6.

Ana was given a real test in her opening match against Laura Granville but still came through in straight sets.

Ana started well going 2-0 up but allowed Granville to come back to 2-2 and 3-3. Ana was then firmly in control and was able to clinch the first set 6-3.

Ana faces a tough opening match against the qualifier, home-crowd favorite, Laura Granville. Granville is currently 87th-ranked in the world and she already won two ITF titles this year.

Despite being hampered by an ankle injury suffered in practice last week Ana is confident that she is going to do well againts Granville.

Ana's first match at Key Biscayne is against a qualifier.
She could face number 10 seed Nadia Petrova in the second-round. Petrova is know to be very unpredictable. Last week in INDIAN WELLS, Petrova lost in the R16 to veteran Mary Pierce 6-2 6-2. The tournament begins Wednesday.

Ana's next tournament is approaching fast. She's currently training in Florida. The cold and moist climate hasn't prevented her from training outdoors. Everything goes very well!

Ana is scheduled to play on the tournament in Miami (Nasdaq-100 Open), which starts on March, 23 and goes on till April, 3 April. The Miami tournament (Tier I) is one of the most important tournaments after the Grand Slams. The tournament takes up two weeks and it's not common among top players to cancel this tournament.
