Ana battles into second round May 10th 2005

Ana beat France's Tatiana Golovin 6-3 6-4 to battle into round two of the Rome Masters on Tuesday. Ana next plays Russian Anna Chakvetadze who beat Lubomira Kurhajcova (SVK) in the first round.

Ana faces Golovin at the Rome Masters May 9th 2005

Ana's first opponent is the number 12 seed Tatiana Golovin from France, currently ranked 19 on the WTA list. They've already played each other last year in Zurich. Ana won that match with the result 2:1, 7-5, 6-7(2), 7-6(3).

If Ana does well in Rome, she will be seeded for Roland Gaross.

Berlin tournament over for Ana May 5th 2005

Ana lost her second round doubles match with Anastasia Myskina (RUS) to number 4 seeds Husarova/ Martinez (SVK/ESP) 6-4 6-0. This was the first time that Ana paired up with Myskina. Ana is expected to play in next week's Italian Open in Rome.

Safina upsets Ana in Berlin May 3rd 2005

Ana was beaten 6-1 6-4 by Russian Dinara Safina at the German Open in Berlin. Ana was put under pressure from the start against Safina, who turned out the more consistent player on the day.

And Ana's defeat was not the only surprise as French ninth seed Nathalie Dechy lost 7-5 6-1 to Dally Randriantefy, of Madagascar, and Daniela Hantuchova , seeded 15, was beaten 6-4, 6-4 by Argentine Gisela Dulko.

Ana improves her ranking to career high 34 May 2nd 2005

Ana has reached a career-high number 34 in the WTA tour ranking and is enjoying some of the best form of her career. She climbed 3 places after the semi-final in Warsaw last week.

Ana will face Dinara Safina (RUS) tomorrow in the first round of Qatar Total German Open 2005 in Berlin.

Safina suffered a humiliating 6-1, 6-1 defeat to Li Na in the Estoril Open clay-court tournament semifinals Saturday. Knowing that Safina is no mental giant, Li ground down the impatient Russian with a tenacious baseline display.

"It was a good fight and maybe I should have won the match earlier but she kept fighting," said the Belgian.

"I was playing much better in the second set but couldn't finish the points."

Ana blamed poor footwork for her defeat.

"I didn't move that well today," she said. "I made a lot of mis-hits on both backhand and forehand.

"I should have got more into the court and put her under pressure. But it was a great experience and I think I had my chances in both sets."

It was another convincing victory in Warsaw, with Ana needing only just over an hour to complete a straight-set victory against the third seed Vera Zvonareva, 6-2, 6-4.

Ana now meets Nathalie Dechy (FRA), who beat the home crowd favourite Marta Domachowska(POL) (6/4 7/6) in the second round.
