Ana surged to the 14th tournament victory of her career as she clinched her first ever title on grass by beating Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-3, 6-2 in the final of the AEGON Classic in Birmingham.

It was a virtually flawless week for Ana, who dropped only 21 games in five straight-sets wins. She spent just five hours and 44 minutes on court, while the Premier $700,000 title is Ana's biggest since winning the French Open in 2008.

Ana cruises into Birmingham final Jun 14th 2014

It took Ana just 58 minutes to confirm her place in the final of the AEGON Classic in Birmingham. The top seed triumphed 6-2, 6-2 over China's Shuai Zhang.

Just as she had in her previous matches here in England this week, Ana got off to a slow start. She was broken and trailed 2-0 early on.

From this point on, Ana asserted her superiority. She overwhelmed the world No.36 with the same brand of attacked grass court tennis that had seen her lose only 12 games in her previous three matches.

It was more of the same from Ana, who chalked up her third straight win: all three Birmingham victories have come with the loss of no more than five games each.

The victory means that no WTA player has won more matches this season than Ana: the 26-year-old and Agnieszka Radwanska have won 36 matches each.

Playing her first grass court match in almost a year, Ana started sluggishly. Barthel looked strident and she broke in the opening game of the match. She even had a break point to lead 3-0, before Ana began to find her rhythm on the pacy green surface.
